Shaped by the rule of the prince-bishops, the city developed into an important center for art, science and culture. Today, Würzburg is not only a lively university city, but also an important business and research location.
One of the most famous sights is the Würzburg Residence, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and masterpiece of Baroque architecture. Other highlights include Würzburg Cathedral, the magnificent Käppele pilgrimage church and the surrounding vineyards, which are famous for their excellent Franconian wines.
